Disputes API

This document will outline the Disputes API and the high-level requirements needed to utilize it. The Disputes API allows merchants to manage transaction disputes efficiently by providing programmatic access to dispute creation, retrieval, and resolution tracking. This API helps businesses handle chargebacks, customer complaints, and fraudulent transaction claims.

Functional Flow

With this API, merchants can:

  • Retrieve dispute details to track progress and respond to updates.
  • Upload supporting evidence to strengthen dispute claims.
  • Accept and close open disputes.

Dispute Process Overview

Disputes are typically initiated by customers through their issuing bank and then routed to Zip. Once a dispute is raised:

  • The disputed amount and a dispute fee is immediately charged to the merchant.
  • The merchant is notified via email with dispute details.
  • The merchant can review the dispute and submit supporting evidence.
  • If the dispute is resolved in the merchant’s favor, the disputed amount is refunded.
